For those that have done this, the manual is sketchy at best. Can you tell me if i have the hoses routed correctly? Especially the hoses off the pump to the valve.
Just noticed that the exhaust is going to be close to this. has anybody else had trouble with this? what kind of clearance do you have from your exhaust to the hoses?
Looks good. Just move the upper hose coming out of the ram to control valve up making more of an "X" at the control valve. Also may want to rotate the high pressure line out of the back of the pump counterclockwise (towards the block). Turn the wheels lock to lock and check wwhere the hoses go and adjust as needed.
The hoses appear to be routed correctly. But the two on the steering control valve & cylinder need to be 'adjusted'. They should cross at the outside, but you should have a little opening between them so that you can fit an adjustment tool into the balancing valve at the end of the control valve. The hoses just need to be loosened and repositioned at the control valve fittings. If you have the AIM for your year car, it shows the exact positioning for them.
Here are two pages from the AIM. I am quite sure that they are correct for all years. The first one shows the correct pressure hose orientation coming out of the back of the pump for small blocks as well as big blocks.
The cap comes off. Under it is a nut that is used to center the control valve which makes the piston not move in or out while the steering is straight. Very small adjustments to the nut is all that is needed to adjust.
Looks like the Control Valve to Ram hoses are the same ones I have, about 1/4" too long. I have bought multiples from different vendors and there are all 1/4" longer than my original. You can make them fit but you end up with that nasty S-curve in the flex portion.
The front wheels need to be off the ground when you do the balancing adjustment. Read the sequence of steps and follow them carefully. Getting that balance adjustment right will keep the car holding a straight line (at least, if wheel alignment is good).
