I was just under my car to change the tranny fluid today. I put in some Mobil 1 75w90. That stuff rocks my tranny feels so loose now. I no longer have to fight it to get into gears. While I was under there I chose to write down some numbers. My bellhousing was 3899621. So what does this tell me about my car's clutch and other things??

Mark B.
Mark, the 3899621 was used on 67-73/4 (?) Vette, Camaro, Impala and so forth. I believe it is a BB only bellhousing. I put a question mark b/c it might be a year or two off.
BB only that is interesting. I ran the numbers off of my trans and found it is the original for the car. I would have thought it to be the original bellhousing. So now i have a numbers matching trans and motor. If I could only get the rearend numbers now.
My LT-1 SB came with this same bell housing stock. It was used for BB and SB alike for high out put engines.
You more than likely have the 11 inch clutch and the 26 spline shaft on your tranny.
Was the last letter on your tranny an A or B. A =M-20 B =M-21
These are the numbers I read off my tranny. Case casting number was 3925661 which is the correct case # for 70-74. The date was P1B22A which means a Muncie from FEB 22, 1971 m20. The only thing I am trying to figure out The partial VIN which reads 011S111566. The 01 in the beginning does not match the VIN, but the 1S... does.
My LT1 has tha tbellhousing also. It was used on many small blocks. The SS Camaros had the same one. It was the upgraded or heavy duty clutch assembly. 11 inch clutch
