I have hooker sidepipes but i dont have the mufflers or baffels yet. does anyone have any suggestions? i dont want to go with the eckler inserts bec i did not hear good things about them. and i dont want glass packs because they always sound like s**t. i read on here before about a company called turbo somthing does any one know the webcite or have any suggestions on other makes for these inserts
THanks Marc
Your best bet is to get a pair of JCL Spiral Baffle Inserts. These are the least restrictive and provide a great sound. Your other two main choices are Hooker glasspack inserts or reverse flow mufflers. Both of those choices are very restrictive (especially the reverse flow mufflers). Personally I like the sound of the glasspack mufflers but these are still restrictive when compared to the JCL Spiral Baffles.
For inserts for Hooker sidepipe, Spiral Turbo Specialties (JCL's) are the best choice for power and sound IMHO. Some tests have shown both HP gains and sound reduction. http://www.spiralturbobaffles.com/

Hands down slam dunk for the baffles. I have them and have dyno tested them and there is no other way to go with sidepipes and you will love the sound. Bill.
I got my baffles a couple days ago, haven't put them in yet since Jet-Hot still has my headers. I did test fit them and drill the holes for the mounting tabs, went in and out real easy. I would strongly urge people NOT to use the mufflers or glass packs, it took a week to get those stinking things out of the sidepipes. After they are in a while they rust and you'll go mad trying to get them out. I used a couple cans of WD40, 2 quarts of used motor oil and they still wouldn't come out. I had to rig up a small piece of pipe with strong wire around it then push it through the muffler and tied it off to a bench vise, and even then it was a real PITA to get them out. I HATE THOSE STINKING MUFFLERS! :mad :jester
I am using the JCL baffles too and think they are unquestionably the best option out there for side pipes. If you open my web page by clicking the url on my sig, you can either select the Blue L88, or just click on its photo on the web page and you can hear an old recording of the car with JCL baffles. I need to make a newer recording running up to its 7000 redline with maybe a power shift or two thrown in:D The recording is only of about 5000 rpm before the engine was broken in. 1st and 2nd gear are simply burnouts, the tires couldn't hold it. I had to lift in 3rd gear due to merging with rather heavy traffic at the end of the on ramp.
For that matter, you can also click on my Z's picture and hear it too. I think I was shifting around 6000 rpm. It would have been too embarrassing to hit the rev limiter (very easy to do) at 6500 on the recording. The engine spools up faster than the tach in first and second. The electronic tach is only reading about 5800 when you hit the rev limiter in first. :(
