Default fuel injection swaping

I need HELP!!!I have a 1981 corvette without engine . I also have a 1988 305 tpi engine . I have instaled it into the 1981 c 3 body . my problen is that before i got the 81 c3 body someone removed the harness. I found a used one from a 1980 c3 body.I got a stand alone harness for the engine controls and i am trying to make the rest of the harness work . NOW my question is did the 1980 engine have ecm carbarator assist in 1980. I am finding that some of the wiring systems are missing in the 1980 harness . is there a diff in the harness between thease two years . I think I screwed up buying the 1980 used harness and need one from the1981 year c3 . I need harness help ... john

You need a harness the same year as your car. Even though it may plug in, GM moved wires each year in the bulkhead. Last Detail has the best prices on 'Lectric Limited harnesses. I think 'Lectric Limited also rebuilds the "newer" C3 ones.

If you need help on the TPI part, I am happy to help. I have done several conversions.

thanks Mark , I have the tpi engine runing great . I just cant find some of the wire's that should be in the harness . an example is the tach wire coming from the guage cluster doesn't come out of the wire conections at the fire wall also there are no wire's coming out the firewall for oil press. on the wiring diagram they show thease wire's on 1980 and 1981 harness's and they have the same color . It just dosen't make sence thease two years both need these wire's. All the guages are the same in 1980 and 1981 . Any way thank you for your quick responce to my question's.... Johnrodz PS do you have numbers / e/mail address for lectric limited

GM is very good about keeping colors the same, however they do move the position of some of the wires in the bulkhead each model year. Just Google "lectric limited" and you should easily find them at http://www.lectriclimited.com/mainpage.htm You can get these at Last Detail for less than listed prices.

I would think the brown tach wire should be with the red wire to the distributor. If you use a large cap HEI, it will plug right in. Oil pressure is blue and should be nearby as well (unless it is low on the drivers side?).

thanks Mark , I have a wiring diagram and this shows the tach wire as white . I found it coming out of the insterment panel plug but i can't find wher it comes out at the firewall I think there may be another harness seperate from the main harness on the 81 ie engine harness there is another round hole on the firewall .Also there are no wires avalable to the w/s wipper, oil p, wat/temp, or heater and air cond. unit .I wonder is there a separate harness for thease .

There is an engine harness and a forward lamp harness, at least in earlier C3s. The engine has tach, distributor, coolant temp, oil pressure, starter, wiper. The forward lamp has all the lights and the horn. The wiring diagram should show them as different. Are you using a generic wiring diagram like Chiltons or a GM diagram from an AIM or Service Manual?

Mark, I was reviewing the wiring diagram and it is a laminated drawing from lictric limited . I got it from Corvette Central. the harness has the starter circuit but no other that I discribed before. The foward light harness plugs into the outside of the firewall at the fuse block.along side the rest of the harness going to the starter .In the drawing it dosn't show how the wires are routed just where they go to. I guese I need to look at another 81 to see whats' missing . buy the way I just bought a 2005 cadillacctsv z06 engine and 6 speed .i got it yesterday . now you talk about wiring this is going to be a challange . You have any experiance with that set up. I have looked all day for a wiring diagram for that car . probly going to have to buy the whole repair manuel to get it .Any way thanks for your replies....
