Default Electrical Problem

I replaced my dash harness on a 71. I have been checking the wiring from Doc's diagram. I turn the ignition on and both turn signals work. If I turn on the light switch the right signal lights up (no blinking) and both turn signals will not work. Any suggestions as to where to look. I have checked the grounds and they seem fine. Thanks.

I have some ideas. Can you tell me for sure that this harness introduced the problem and you did not change anything else?

I did not change anything else. I took the switch out and noted some rust on it. I checked the grounds and they are all tight. I figured it might be the switch. I tried the switch again and found both turn signal lights lit up. When the light switch is not on both turn signals work fine. thanks for the reply. Bill

I can't remember all the little gremlins, but yours sound similar to an experience I had. Make sure the signal flasher is good as well as plugged in. If the problem did not exist before the harness swap, it is something you've caused. Doc's diagrams are spot on.

I had some weird problems like this and it was the flasher relay. Spot on on the above posts. Let us know. FYI - I would replace the 4 way and 2 way relay at the same time due to an experience I had.

Thank you I am going to get both flashers replaced. I did find that the headlights work only on high beam and not on low beam. I pulled the heavy duty flasher and the left turn signal light went off but the right one stayed on. I will put the new flashers in and let you know what has happened. I replaced the headlight switch and checked it. It has power to it. Thanks for the replys

Replaced both flashers. The turn signals work when the headlights are not on. However, now both the high and low beams now work. When you turn the lights on the right turn signal light is lit not the left one. Before replacing both flashers both the left and right turn signal lights were lit when turning on the headlights Any suggestions as to where I go from here. Thank you again

Check the 3 wire connectors going to each front park/turn signal light.
If originality is not an issue I have been doing away with the connectors because they corrode and don't make good connection.

Thank you. I traced the wiring and had power to the front turn signal. The socket was bad and not a good connection. It now works thanks for all the advice. This is a great site.
