I need to replace the hood release cable on my 70 (broke the wire end off at the hood latch). Any tips or tricks or is it an easy, straight forward job? Thanks.
use a black coathanger, fit the hook/neck upside downon the latch, cut the loop, feed one end throug to inside, put about 5" of thin vacuum hose over it, and bend over bare end without kinking hose, and put another endof hose over end...this makes a nice handle...
leave other end of loop under hood of car for emergency back up...
of course remove handle and bracket as no longer needed....
maybe not stock, but it saves money and gives an emergency back up handle...
and it more hidden from view in the pass compartment....
I've got the same job in my future, Bill. I got a replacement, but I'm putting it off for as long as I can. The new cable will not feed into the old sleeve, so I will have to replace the bracket and sleeve - can't see any way to do that without removing the driver's side lower dash panel. I've had it off a couple of times before for other jobs and I absolutely HATE doing it. If you go that route, replace all your bulbs and anything else that might go wrong because you won't want to do it again! Good luck!
