Did complete restoration on 70 vette all new parts and hoses. When I start the car the headlight doors will come up and go back down after about 15-20 seconds????? I thought maybe that I had a hose in the wrong spot but have double checked many times and it all looks correct. There is a check valve up near the intake that was put on new as well, could this be my problem???
Hi rg70,
There are a zillion posts about trouble shooting headlight and wiper door problems.
It sounds to me like you have a leak in the 'control' part of the system. As the vacuum increases the headlight relay moves to the 'closed' position and signals the accuators to close the doors. Some times this is caused by the valve you mention and so the valve check is a good idea. It should hold vacuum in one direction but not the other.

Alan
It's has been awhile since I worked on mine. But my first question would be , why are the actuators getting the vacum to open in the first place when engine starts. Check the routing again. Then too I,m thinking a leak as well because they don't stay up. Did you also renew all the hoses under the dash. You must understand the vacum circuit, don't just plug the hoses in and pray. You can individually test each component it you understand what it does. I believe along time ago, mine did the same thing on just one light. It turned out to be the actuator diaphram leaking.
