Default sparkplug problem

If its not one thing its another:

Would shorty sparkplugs fix this issue? The headers are barely clearing the plugs and the wires either not going to go on at all, or are going to completely roast against the headers.

This is a new motor from top to bottom, reusing the same headers off the old one:

Default Plug and header clearance

OK, here is how I cured the problem on my new engine. First of all, go to the parts store and buy a set of short (for header clearance) spark plugs. Accel and NGK and maybe other companys make them. Install them in engine and install plug wires and then take a felt marker and mark the header where the interference is. Do this for all and any plugs and wire boots that are a close fit to header. Then remove headers and place in a bearing press between two blocks of wood and put pressure on spots that you marked and this will oval the tube and give you enough clearance. When you use this method the headers will not be damaged and the flow will not be reduced in the tube. It will look like they were manufactured this way. If that is to much work for you, take ball peen hammer and hammer away at felt pen marks, which in my opinion will ruin the headers.

Well the plug boots would actually go on now if I forced them to.. there is about 1/8" clearance as it is right now - with short plugs and 90* boots do you think that would clear? And are there any *HEAVILY* insulated spark plug boots out there? lol

I have always used Accel shorty plugs with no problems.

They are patriot freedom series CNC heads. Ive been really pleased with the fit/finish of them so far, they came in looking great - this has been my first issue of any type.

I'll try a set of the short plugs and see if those will clear. Thanks!

yes there are cloth tubes of fire resistant material you can put over the end of the spark plug wires they look like "fingers" cut off of a knit glove and open at each end

Just an update - I should have taken a pic. The accel shorties with 90* boots worked perfect - much better fit than before.
