I am wanting to reroute a new set of wires from the dist across the valve covers and down to the plugs. I also want Red, I am having a hard time finding some that I know will fit. And not cost an arm and a leg, any suggestions? Thanks

I got a universal set from Summit. It's a little more work until you figure out how to put then ends on, but you can cut them to the exact length you need.
Your 81 is probably like my 80. I tried the Jegs set, and they didn't fit. I spent the "big bucks" for the custom MSD wires, 8.5mm and red. They fit perfect in the OEM path underneath. I think this install looks a lot neater than placing the wires over the valve covers.
By the time you get all that stuff assembled and lined up, how is that any easier to install or work on than the original Corvette wiring? Now, if it is there just to be 'unique', that's fine if that's what "trips your trigger".
