Default LS6 454 Exhaust system

Hi Guys,
Having just fitted an LS6 454 with Hedman Ceramic coated headers I am getting my exhaust system fabricated next week. Currently estimated at 450hp, unlikely to ever take it above 500 to 550hp in the future.
Two questions really:

1. 2.5 or 3 inch bore?
2. X pipe or not?

I am planning on going pretty much straight through with some free flowing small silencers at the rear, with the standard turned down style exhaust tips. I am running a standard cross memeber but from what I hear a well fabricated system will allow a 3 inch pipe to go though the cross member?

Any pics anyone can post of their systems before the middle of next week to give me some ideas (and to give to the fabrication shop) would be much appreciated.

Cheers,
Lester

Lester,
Glad to see you are finally getting your exhaust put on! From what I've been told, the LS6 engines were good for a solid 500HP with headers and a free flowing exhaust. I read an article a while back that had a zz454 tested with a 2.5 and a 3 in exhaust. It made more HP and tq with the 3in. So that is something to think about.. As for my set up, I will be running a pair of Hedman Hedders, X-pipe, and a pair of Dynomax Super Turbos all on 3 in exhaust.

From what I told, besides the extra HP that it may help produce, the X pipe takes a lot of drone and resonance out of an exhaust system. That reason alone helped me decide on the x pipe.

Hope everything is going well with your build!

Mako - Thanks for the reply but the link didnt work. I tried entering the sear id (from the link you posted) as a search criteria, and of course it took me straight back to this post. lol

FRSTR - Hows yours going? I hope you have some good news to tell me? I have progressed very nicely in the last couple of weeks . I have plenty of updates, I will drop you a PM at some point. I think I have overcome most of the problems now, and its just getting the simple stuff sorted now and getting it road legal (or reasonably road legal) again.

Lester
Oh and exhaust system now looks like its been put back to around the weekend of the 26th due to work commitments
