Default Open headers for a week

Well I finally got around to bolting in my summit racing headers that have been hanging around my garage for a year or so. Took the pipe out that connected to the stock exhaust manifolds and the header collectors are currently dumping out below the car not hooked up to the mufflers. This weekend I will re-rout my spark plug wires so they are away from the headers and get my clutch linkage back in. It looks like I will have to drive it for about a week with open headers though, until I get the money for new piping back to the mufflers. How fast do you think I will get a ticket for noise violation?

more importantly are you sure the hot exhaust gas isnt going to damage something under the car? not to mention the exhaust gas coming into the passenger compartment.

Hmmm I did consider that but I figured if I was driving fast enough it wouldn't matter.

I can see it now--- I go blowing past a cop with open headers and get slammed for speeding and noise
Problem is its my daily driver, and since my other daily driver (70 Baja Bug) has been commandeered by my little bro since he doesn't have a car of his own I really will HAVE to drive it at least a few times next week.

They make these plastic cards so you don't have to pay!

I've driven mine with open collector extensions 78 miles out to the nearest NHRA track for a drag racing weekends. Even with ear plugs cuising down the freeway at 85 mph it kind of sucks.

I went with a free flowing true dual 3 inch system with cross over pipe and never diconnect it for race days.

I have my exhaust taken off after the Y Pipe. I race a lot Spring through the Fall so it's too much trouble to put it back on. It's loud but with ear plugs its not too bad and I can even hear the radio with it cranked way up!

If you see a cop put it in “whisper mode” match the engine RPMs with your speed and don’t load or decelerate the engine. Keep it quiet, then after the cop is gone, get under a bridge and romp it! Bwahahah!

Ran my Camaro for 3 years like that when I was a kid. Finally got caught. Got an equipment violation ticket and had to show up on the court day with a complete exhaust system installed. They came out, checked it and dropped the ticket. Don't know if that is still how it works.
PS, that complete exhaust system was 2 1/2 dual all the way back with 2 Olds 98 junkyard resonators off big block single exhaust cars with curved down tips exiting the rear. No restriction on the resonators, they were straight through 2 1/2". Passed.

As long as you're not downtown, bouncing the note between buildings, you may slide by less noticed.

At night, the challenge increases with more folks at home to hear you. Best bet is weather keeping the nights cold enough that everyone still has their houses buttoned up.

Staying out in the open may allow you to sneak past the boys in blue.

Of course, only your right foot knows for sure.

I am going to hook it back to the mufflers eventually, dont want an open header daily driver Plus I put flowmaster super 44's on because I really liked their sound when I got the car because it came to me mufflerless (new word?) Its just a matter of getting the dough to get the exhaust work done collectors-->mufflers. I plan to go with 2.5" true dual with an H-Pipe because I am only putting about 325Hp to the road, although I expect that to improve with the headers!

I have run w/ open headers, just don't get on it around the cops.

As 98MustGTS posted you can attach mufflers to the headers.
