Well the body will be going back on my #73 vert, only took 4 years to get to this point. Would appreciatte opinions on best selection for firewall insulation.
1) oem style for $390.00 (paragon)
2) foam cheap style for < $200.00 (ecklers)
3) Dynamat or ?
Want to do it the best way. Not sure if OEM is the best ?
I used 3 tiers, I got zero-clearance insulation from the outside (on the firewall and around tranny tunnel, then I used dynamat xtreme on the interior followed by a layer of reflectix on top of it. cool as cucumber and quite as a mercedes.
I'm planning on installing duplicates of the 68 and 69 underbody fiberglass blankets on my 70. For some reason, probably to save money, these blankets were abandoned on the 70. The 68 and 69 had fiberglass blankets under the driver and passenger floor pans, a fiberglass blanket that went half way up the lower half of the engine firewall. Also there was a blanket in the transmission tunnel, in addition to the hard pressed aluminum foil transmission tunnel liner that was continued on into the 70 and up.
The 68 and 69 had a sheet steel liner to protect the driver and passenger fiberglass insulation blanket from road damage. Their were shields also to protect the blanket that went half way up the lower firewall half. My 70 has these steel sheilds (same as the 68 and 69, but there's no sign the firewall blanket was present (its mission now).
These pieces are still available from Paragon and Volunter Vette (and maybe other vendors). They are not expensive. Seems like a good idea to maintain this insulation system.
