Anyone know of a company, person, place etc... that can convert a HEI distributor to a manual tach drive? I know Vendors sell them for Big bucks. I just wanna know if There is a place where I can Have mine modified? On the cheap maybe.
Brings up the question of the opposite end. I've heard of taking any HEI distributor, and then removing the manual tach drive and replacing it with a later model electronic mechanism. I'll probably do this on my '68 as the tach drive has no advantages.

What's the story on this?
There is only one reason to keep the Manual tach drive. That's so you can keep the original gauges. I don't think the later electric style tach faces look the same as the early 70's style. Although someone might sell an early style tach that is electric. Some illumination on both of these subjects would be cool.
A month ago or so, someone posted a link to a place in California that would convert your old mechanical tachdrive points type distributor to HEI. It was a fairly inexpensive conversion. Do a search on HEI AND CONVERSION, it might show up.
By the way, the advertisement for next weekends Horsepower TV on TNN, said they would show how to convert your old points type distributor to HEI. So maybe they have something in the way of a kit that someone has put out.
Here is a link I found on the web that shows a converted distributor, The name of the the place is on this webpage, it is Dave's Small Body HEI http://www.hopupmag.com/mar99-2.html
I found the link to Dave's Small Body HEI
$175.00 for a full HEI conversion for a 'vette tach drive distributor, cheap enough in my opinion.
LS-5 71: The thing is, you kept your original face, and just replaced the mechanism behind it. Someone knows what I'm talking about, I just can't remember who! :)

That would be great! If anyone knows or heard about this conversion. Please feel free to chime in......
ME, I'd get a tach from a 75-77 and have over with it, print is close enough....
that old mechanical nitemare is just that, constant problems...and expensive to fix shafts, gears, cables, tach heads...
