Default Plug wires melt

Anybody else have this problem? I have headers installed. Even though I have used high temp wires, and be careful to keep the wire in side the factory raceway. They still melt where the come to the plug. The most space I can keep between the wire and header is 1/2".

Anybody have a solution? Should I just run them on top the valve covers?

Welcome to our nightmare

The best way mine have survived is going above the headers and using 90 degree boots with heat socks and wire looms

good luck

That's a nice setup! I like how they don't interfere with valve cover removal. I'll something like that. Thanks for the tips.

if your mill is melting wires close to the plug and you have 1/2" clearance, i would check my total timing as it could be too slow or weights sticking....too much header heat is a sign of slow timing....good luck....

I use these plug wire guards on both my cars

Purchased from Jegs - a little pricey but better than havin to replace wires.

Good Luck, Ed

It only melts them after sitting and idling for long periods of time. (like when I was tuning the carb, or just letting it run after sitting for couple weeks.) Air flow of driving seems to prevent it, however I will check my total timing. By this you mean full vac advance and mech. advance, all in timing? Or just mech?
