I am a new corvette owner. I have 1980 but I am confused as to what engine I have. The casting number is 14010201 but I also have L83 stamped on the passenger side. Is it possible to put a 350 engine on this block?
Look at the serial number of your car. the 5th digit is the engine code. If its an H than you have a 305 if its an 8, you have the L48 if its a 6 you have the L82. Any SBC will fit in th engine bay if you decide to replace it.
Your '80 is a "California" car. The L48 and L82 engines for '80 didn't meet CA emissions standards. The 305 is computerized like the '81 350. You can drop a non-computerized crate 350 in your '80 with no problems. A lot of us have done it. I have a 330 hp GM 350 HO in my '80. Your swap would be the same as the guys who replaced their '81 L48 with a non-computerized crate.

Where my confusion lies is in this. I see where my casting number designates a 305, but my engine is also stamped with an L83. Through my research, I have found that the stock L83 engine was blue. Mine is blue. I don't have the original L48 engine, and my vin # tells me that I do not have a California car. Thanks for the help.
I will take some today. I have both the markings of a 305 and possibly an L83 engine. The one thing I do know is that my engine is not the original engine for my car. That would be the L48 and I know I don't have that.
There will be two numbers stamped on the pad on the block at the front of the right head. Jot them down and post them here. One number will identify your engine; the second will be the VIN derivitive of the car the engine was originally installed in.
