Default Heater temp control

I have had a problem with the temperature control on my '77.

It moves as I drive and won't stay where I put it... Any ideas on what's wrong and needs replacing???

Cables are free and all vacuum parts are working. Is there a friction piece on the selector???

Hi;

On the passenger's side of the lower console there is an adjustment connector .
It should be held in a clip-on bracket near radio.
I believe the cable goes from heater control to the vacuum valve located on the top of the heater box behind passenger's dash pad.
Locating cable adjuster, adjusting it, and securing it should solve your problem.

Good Luck

Found the valve when I first bought her, (it was leaking) so all has been checked there. Is the lever supposed to keep the cable where you leave it? Wondered if I need a good replacement control assembly or is the old one repairable...

Properly adjusted and secure , it should not move.

There should be slight tension in the temperature lever.....

If there is NO tension the adjuster has come apart or the cable has come off at the temperature lever or at the vacuum valve behind passenger dash panel.

Good Luck
