We were just informed this morning that the Bilstein HD shocks have been discontinued. If this is old news, sorry. We are working with QA1 on their non-adjustable shock to see if they have valving somewhat close. They currently do no offer a front non-adjustable shock but we will see if we can press forward to get 1 made.

I wonder why they would do that when everyone recognized that they were the best off the shelf shocks for C3 Vettes? I love my Bilsteins. I have them on my Porsche also. I hope QA1 steps up. I was thinking of going with their coil overs in front anyways.

OOOps, your right. I think I am confused. Was it the HD or Sports that was most desireable? Will the sports still be available? I guess they didn't need to offer both.

The sprots were more desireable. I think Bilstein is tightening up just like everyone else and if it wasn't a high volume piece it got pulled, especially since there were 2 versions of the shocks.
The difference between the Sports and HD was 10%. The sports are the stiffer of the 2.
Van Steel, why don't you try some USA made Edelbrock shocks. I think Vic could make you a great deal on them and they seem to work well on my buddies 74 Vette.
From what I have seen of QA1 I have to believe they come from an offshore source and 5 years ago when I was asking them questions on their product they seemed clueless about shock dampening for my car. Maybe the Carrera guys are working in the QA1 engineering office now but a few years back, the answers were vauge and non comittal on the adjustable shocks they offer.
Thanks for the heads up. I've been stalling on buying a set of Bilstein HD's for over 5 years now but I finally bit the bullet this morning while I still can. Hopefully this will be a noticeable improvement over my KYB GR-2s.

QA1: From what we know, QA1 machines most of the parts here in the US. Their springs are offshore but we don't use them except in the semi-coilover kits, which I rarely sell. If I do sell them, it's a drop ship for another vendor. We only use Hyperco springs on our coilover kits for the c2-4 cars. Even the new C5/6 coilovers will most likely get the springs changed out to Hyperco springs. Those drop next week. Not sure who you talked to there but if you have questions about their shocks or internals, drop me a PM and I'll forward you the guy/s you need to talk to. We have very few issues with the QA1 shocks and they fair well on a shock dyno. We have them tested periodically on a Roehrig shock dyno. We test them both in a traditional mount and inverted mount configuration.
Some guys from the old Carrera are at a new company....
I don't really have any pull at another shock manufacture for me to walk in and say hey, will you build this. I may do 50 car sets a year. Just won't work and if it did, I would probably have to comitt to all of those shocks at once and hope to move them in a timely manner.
