When I got my car the locks were a disaster. I got the correct spare tire lock and then went to the local locksmith who keyed the car like I wanted it - square key for ignition only, oval key for all the other locks which meant each door, storage tray behind the seats, and that spare tire lock. The bill was fairly reasonable. I think he used the oval key that came with the new spare lock and keyed the other locks to match. Ask your locksmith and he'll give you the good info.
The locksmith did not have the correct key blanks, just whatever worked. He said if I bring in the right blanks, he'd cut them for me, so off to the local Vette place I went. They didn't have them, and as I was doing a frame-off and had keys that worked, figured I'd get around to getting the right ones later. So now I have two identical-looking keys, one with "I" for ignition written in Sharpie, the other "D" for door. This was six or seven years ago, and I still haven't got around to it
Great pics shmoky and DZRick, those will be a good reference for guys contemplating work on the 68 locks.
By the way, I am a doofus. The lock is not 20 degrees off. When I mounted it on the door it is is straight. The door mounting itself is angled about 20 degrees from horizontal.
So now my locks are good. If I could just get my side windows adjusted properly the doors would be great...
Trust me.....$20 is nothing compared to trying to do it yourself! Look at this mess!

I was hoping you were talking about the '68, John. It would be nice to have replacement parts for these locks. After seeing Snoopy's picture above I've got to say Kudos to you my friend, I'd be lost!

Thanks for the update, I was curious about what might be the issue with my spare lock, seeing that it was also angled.
I don't know how long you've had your '68 Fred or how much you've worked on it but there is so much about these '68s that is different than any other year. Somebody should write a book!
