Ummm...3000GT is a rear wheel drive car too.....VR4 is all wheel, and its the only TT....I've driven both these cars a fair deal, the 3000GT VR4 was fast, but not so off the line, the 300ZX TT was a quick squirrley little car, but hardly faster than most C4's....just my $.02 from someone who's driven them....
I am not the expert on Rice Jobs but I know for a fact that the base 3000GT is a front wheel drive car. You are correct that the VR4 is All wheel drive and very fast. A friend of mine had a 3000GT and I drove it a few time and when he said "get on it"......the front tires smoked. He traded it in on a black 95 Vette. Go here http://www.3kgt.com/ie.htm and scroll down the left frame to specifications and check it out.

The 300ZX's would not "leave Vettes in their dust." They were marginally faster. And the turbos gave them easier tunability (via greater boost). This was the first car in the Vettes class to really give it a run for its money. But to say it kicked the Vette's butt, or anything like that, is a joke. The margin was so small, it would truly come down to driver skill. Just the same, the 300z's of that era were sweet rides.
If you really want to compare them (well not really), pick up Grand Tourismo for the Playstation. You can race your buddy. Give him the 300, take the Vette. See what happens. If you haven't played this game, it'll blow you away.
The C5's w/perfomance axle (3.15), are turning 13.8-13.7 all day long with an inexperienced driver
Bud has a 97, not a racer, never dragged ever, in 99, labor day weekend at Corvette Museum, Sat. night drags, dude red lighted every pass, but turned 13.7-13.8 all night long
