OK my friend is really pissing me off .. he keeps saying that stock 300zx turbos and twin turbos can leave corvettes in there DUST .. is this true for any of the same year models ? anyone got any sites that will tell me?
A stock TT can probably dust off a stock LT1 from the same time period. A stock '95 TT will probably not blow away a stock LT4. Further more, unless the TT driver is really really good, an average driver in an LT4 is going to blow away the TT from a stop.
Of course the thing about the 300ZXTTs is that it costs almost nothing to raise that 300 stock fwhp to sub 400 fwhp.

300Z's are rear wheel drive. I think you may be thinking of the 3000GT's made by Mitubishi. I'll race any TT that I come across and I have never lost. It is close (about 2 to 3 car lengths) but I always win. The fact about my car is that it looks bone stock but under the hood is a living breathing ZZ4 with all the goodies on it. Why don't you research it on one of the car magazines web-sites (Car and Drive etc.) and see if you can get a comparo article they may have done when these cars were new. If he is talking about your car against a TT I would probally have to say yes to him.....sorry....but there is stuff you can do to change that.

1987 300zx
3.0 L V6 turbo-charged engine
200 HP and 227 lbs/ft of torque@ 6.5 PSi of boost with stock Nissan T3 turbo
I have raced an SVO turbo mustang with more power and won with a 75 vette.
I think he may be talking about the cream of the crop 300zx twin turbo (because of course they always pick the most expensive best model to compare) 90-96 Turbo: 300 hp / 283 ft lbs torque. curb weight: 3414
Now thats pretty impressive, but lets compare a cream of the crop corvette of the same year, lets say.... 94
Power 405 hp @ 5800 RPM
Torque 522 Nm / 385 ft lbs @ 4800 RPM weight: 3503 lbs (ZR1)
Just a little bit more weight but quite a bit more power. My money is on the Vette !
Pretty much any of the sports cars of the early to mid '90s: Corvette (LT1) , RX-7 (turbo), Supra (turbo), 3000GT (turbo), and 300ZX (turbo) are all really close in 0-60 and 1/4 mi times. I think in any of these cars bone stock, the better driver will win regardless of vehicle.
Those are pretty impressive. You would be alright in a straight line for the reasons mentioned above, but these were also great handling cars. Unmodified C-3's would be no match in the twisties. The early ones were underbraked, however I think they fixed that problem. Keep in mind the technology differences...
its only turbo not twin turbo .... lol . .. if it was twin turbo then yea of course he would take me to school .. but its turbo ... the only thing that makes his faster is its 5 speed
Oooooohhh, now you hit a sore spot ! :boxing - That's one car I have a definite grudge against.... :mad
Late one night in my '68 Big Block car on the hwy. there's this little car trying to race me. Me ? - c'mon, I'll blow your doors off - now step back - and before I could downshift into 3rd - he had me..... I slowly dropped behind and quit at around 90mph or so..... yep, twin turbos engaged.
Now, back then my car was far from properly 'tuned' and my '98 LS-1 would give him a run for the money....
That's the only car that's beat me on the highway in my '68 vette. :smash:
Ahhhhh, but is it stylish ?!? - watch out for those TT's, man !
Maybe I should get a 6-speed :D :D :D
78PCECAR,
So he must have a 300zx turbo, what year is it? I think they are generally pretty heavy cars. Like I said eariler I have raced a 1986 turbo mustang svo and won. it runs 18psi of boost stock. Hung pretty even , but I had pulled ahead. Its just a turbo 4cylinder and 300zx's are heavy little cars. You should whoop on it if its stock and NOT one of the newer styles of 300zx. I test drove one of them and it had leather seats power windows and was a complete dog.. horrid. Most of those Imports from the 80's weren't all that fast (even turbos). Then the 90's hit and supras started to get fast, 3rd gen rx7's rock and so on. Have him compare a 78 nissan to your 78 vette lol...
I used to have a 280z turbo (similar to 300z turbo I think) and nothing like my friends 300z twin-turbo. But the 280z turbo was pretty peppy. In acceleration, the 280z was probably a little quicker than my stock l48 '77. Now, I could put it away pretty easily. OK, well not that easily, still gotta get my heads on. :)
When I get the heads on, I'll compare it to my friends 300z TT, but he's got that 400fwhp upgrade, so I may not have a chance. :)

Ummm...3000GT is a rear wheel drive car too.....VR4 is all wheel, and its the only TT....I've driven both these cars a fair deal, the 3000GT VR4 was fast, but not so off the line, the 300ZX TT was a quick squirrley little car, but hardly faster than most C4's....just my $.02 from someone who's driven them....
