Default car wont turn off

Like title says it wont turn off. I had checked the starter and the wires and its good. I checked the ignition switch and made sure it was secure. the ignition key is fairly new ( 2 years old) so im at a loss of what else it could be.
any ideas?

If the wire at the starter (small outboard post) is touching the battery cable it won't shut off. As a test, you could unhook the yellow wire at the + side of the coil and try it.

I think some aftermarket distributors had a diode leak that could cause this.

the yellow at the + coil "can" supply power and the other cloth covered wire "can" supply power also. If you don't want to separate the 2 wires at the coil (they are crimped together) just remove the yellow at the starter and restart the engine and then see if it will shut off.
I have seen solenoids cause this problem.

( The engine should restart without the yellow connected but if it won't ,run a temporary jumper from the + coil to the + term on the alternator and remove once engine starts. )

A question. How are you shutting the engine down now ?

To diagnose this properly, you will have to use an ohmmeter to make continuity checks at the ignition switch, on the starter solenoid, and [maybe] at the distributor (the diode thing in an aftermarket dizzy is a new one on me). Until you find the source of the "no OFF position" problem, you're doomed to 'ride forever'.....

A failed starter solenoid or ignition switch are the most likely candidates, IMO.

I pop the hood and pull the the coil wire...
