Default Engine guru's....454 pressed pin depth?

I'm putting new pistons in my 454. They are going to be press fit, but they also have grooves and clips for a floating pin set up. It seems like I should be able to put a clip in one side of the piston, and use that as a "stop" for installing the press fit pins. Can I heat the rod end.... use the clip as a stop and then remove the clip when cool, or will this cause some problem, or miss alignment that I'm not aware of?
Thanks for any help you can give!

The only problem is the rod will have to be centered when it hits the lock and you don't have much time to fooling around centering the rod.
