Never, ever install a mechanical fuel gauge inside the car with a fuel line running inside the people compartment! Now alot of race cars have the fuel press gauge mounted right on the hood in front of the windshield.Usually just connecting the combo fuel press gauge to the line to the carb is done to monitor pump supply press. U can rev the motor a little to observe what the carb is seeing from the pump and usually thats good enough.
U may have to make a temporay fuel line to test this.Don't even bother with those little quarter size liquid filled fuel press gauges. As soon as the engine compartment heats up they fail due to the heated liquid pushing on the measuring tube inside. The non-filled guage will shake the needle but u just have to average the readings.
Now to brag a little i bought a Holley electric fuel press gauge for only $75 and installed the gauge end in my clock hole. The electrical pressure sensor is at the fuel inlet on my Qjet. I can see the fuel pressure right at the carb intet needle.

Hope this helps,
