Hello Fellow Vetteheads:
Going to purchase a set of tires and would like to hear your thoughts on what tire to purchase and if I can put 225-70R/15's on the front and go abit wider 235-60R/15's on the rear. Thank You
What year is your C3? Chevrolet didn't authorize the use of 60 series tires until the '78 model year when some modifications to the body panels were made for clearance. It seems to be a car by car thing whether 60 series will fit earlier cars without problems...particularly with the front.
jae1971..I did not know that 60s would fit in the front???? Believe me guy's I'am not disputing anything but I just do not want to buy something that will not fit and start rubbing.... Roughrider I have a 76 vette. Has anyone heard anything about the Firestone Indy 500's
Hello Fellow Vetteheads:

You can only use the sizes you posted if you want your front tire to be over an inch taller than your rear tire. I don't think you want that. As stated above 255/60-15s may not fit all the way around due to rubbing issues on the leading edge of the front fenders and the rear corner of the front fenders at the front of the rocker molding. I think a 245/60-15 will work in the front and I would go with the 255/60-15 in the rear. If you really want to play it safe in the front go with the 235/60-15. I hope this helps.
My 255's on the front are touching the frame just a hair, to the rear of the spindle on the inside edge of the tread in a full turn. Rears are just a hair from touching the park brake cables. But they look great! White letter Eagle GT II's
I used to run 225/70/15 on front and 275/60/15 on the rear on my stock ralleys. I had to relocate the e-brake mount from outside of T-arms to top. No other issues with clearance and they fit under the fenders. Look good from the rear.
I as well have an L-82 WOW NICE LOOKING sold on the LOOK
I like a fat tire in the back I think it makes the car look more like a muscle car. the 275/60/15 tires are 28" tall about an inch taller then stock 225/70s so it will cut down your gearing a slight bit. I was told that my 3.73 gears were more like a 3.60 gears with the taller tire.
Those pictures were from few years ago my car looks diff now, have drag wheels and sidepipes now.
One more question........those of you who have 255's on the rear....do they stick out side of the fender wall .......don't want that...
THANKS AGAIN FOR ALL THE HELP
if they are on ur stock ralley wheels they wont hang out of fenders, I had 275s on my stock wheels and they didnt stick out of fenders at all and they are wider then 255s. when I put on convo pro wheels they have slightly less backspacing (3.375") then ralley wheels (4") so a 275 sticks out of fenders by a little bit. But you should be good with 255 or 275s. If you dont wanna be bothered with grinding off E-brake bracket and relocating it to top of T-arm then go with the 255s.
Just put 235R60-15's on all four wheels and be done with it. That size is the same diameter as the original F7015's so your speedo calibration will be right. Is there any reason you need wider tires than 235's on the back? {It is a 1971 low compression engine, isn't it?} [same as mine]
