Which would you choose and why? Met with the engine builder this week to discuss options. Building a SB 427 using a Dart block. Car will be street driven, goal is 500hp. Do not intend to race.
I am leaning towards the hydraulic for ease of maintenance but I must admit I have no idea what to expect from a solid. The builder is pushing the solid because he says I will have 30+ more hp. I have never listened to a solid but I heard that they sound different. Not sure I know what that means.
Not sure if I will care about more hp since it is an upgrade from a stock 77 L48. It will have a T56 6 speed with 2.66 1st gear and a 3.73 diff.
If you are building a 427 SB with only 500 HP than a hyd roller will work fine. You will easily get it and not have to rev the motor. If you were going to try for upper 500 HP or 600 with tha tmotor than a solid would be the choice. A 500 HP 427 will run a mild hyd roller. I have a solid roller in mine and yes it does make more noise but who cares. I like the sound

hydraulics are maintenance free, solid rollers require a tear down every 5-6000 miles to check the needles or the rollers themselves because of lash, they take a pounding and things get really ugly if one of them goes..... some guys let them go for a longer period but the problem is always there....
