The L-82 aluminum intake was very similar in design to the famed LT-1 aluminum of the 70 time frame. One of the best designs of the time.

The Performer would actually loose power in comparison.

IMO - any manifold change on the stock L-82 motor would be marginal at best. The biggest gains to a stock motor are to get rid of power loses. Like that big clutch fan on the front, belt driven smog pumps, restrictive exhaust system

The L-82 and LT-1 intakes are nothing alike other than they both keep the carb from falling into the lifter valley.

Gerry and I talked it over and I came up with with some sights. The aluminum L-82 was more of a weight saving idea than performance like a LT1.

The L-82 is better than a performer, but would fall behind higher rpm modern manifolds

The RPM Air Gap is a very good manifold, I tested it back to back with a Vic Jr and the Air Gap held it's own up to 6000RPM when the Vic Jr was a little better. For any street motor the Air Gap is a good performer.

The Vic Jr is no slouch when I was building my 427ci I had the Vic Jr port matched to my AFR 227's by AFR and on the flow bench with the Vic Jr attached to the head it showed only a 3 % loss over the bare head.

I noticed early on the forum that comments on the Performer sounded like guys were talking about different intakes & looked into it since some have low 68-72 hoods. The reason for so many different comments on the Performer 2101 is there are 3 versions.
The current one is not rec. for perf., the previous 2101 is best.
For new low Edelbrock the EPS or Performer Air Gap would work for some.

The RPMs are better though the RPM Air Gap is not necessarily the best choice for all setups ...
