I have a 1981 Vette, before starting the car the tach reads about 3K RPM, when the car is running the tach goes to zero and stays there. The car is being restored at the present and I am just trying to fix what I can before it goes to the mechanic for tuning. Any help appreciated. ~Randall

If you have an aftermarket tach, I would use it to help diagnose the problem. I have the tach out of my 79 right now for problems with mine. It's easy to take out, and yours is the same, so PM me if you need help.
Could be multiple causes but the first suspect is the tach board. This tech tach article just came out in Corvette Enthusiast and Wilcox has some very informative guides as well.
