changing my dash...........
I have a crack along the edge of my dash in my 82. i took it to a guy that does inter. repair and he told me that over the years of using stuff like armerol, adisve wont stick. so iam thinking about changing my dash. what i asking is how hard of a job this is. I dont like the idea of the dash cover i hard they never look good just laying over the old one.has anyone done this and if so, how is the fit and finsh.

Use a polyester body putty to mend damaged areas in the dash. Before it gets hard, you can use a toothpick to lightly etch some 'grain' into the surface if you need to. Then recolor it with SEM "Color Coat" vinyl dye. You do need to use lacquer thinner on a rag to clean all oils/dirt and Armor-All

I would try to repair it first like 7T1vette suggested. I just replaced my dash and I have to agree with michalbugno2006. Lots of work and so-so fit for $500. I also tried one of those dash caps and that was terrible. Good luck.

The other problem with replacement is that you have to do so much disasembly it's real easy to get caught up in the "while I'm at it I 'bout as well fix/refurbish/replace".... don't ask how I know. Plan a full weekend because I guarantee you that you will get sidetracked.
