Default Power steering pump

Have a bad pump on my 79, Ordered a new one and it has a press on shaft, mine has a keyed shaft. Parts guy says he never seen a keyed one. Any place I can get a keyed one or do I need to change over?

Thanks

Chevy went to a press on pulley in the mid 70s. If yours is threaded it is for the wrong year car.
If you are wanting to find a pump with a threaded and keyed shaft, look at early 70s cars.

Just replaced mine and it's press on. I'd buy a new pulley.

Picked up one for a 74 Chevy, same as the old one and it will save 50 bucks on a new pulley. Some where along the line PO must have swaped it out.
Thanks for the info.

I almost don't blame him. Press on is a major PITA, while keyed is simple. GM must have saved a nickel a car by eliminating that key.

Depends, with a PS-pump pulley puller and an air-ratchet it's a five minute job to replace the pulley. But a new(-ish) pump with pulley already on is much easier ofcourse

I replaced the front seal on mine last week and it was dead simple, as long as you have the right puller (I borrowed mine from work), took 30 minutes to replace seal and now doenst leak a drop, painted it while it was out, looks new too. Seal was $8, better option tahn buying a new one.
