I have a 80 L82. Was having problem with motor not turning over, just a "click" sound. Replaced the starter......the problem still exists!
I have power to the radio, etc.
Advice appreciated......
I tried jumpstarting without success.
The silenoid was replaced also.
The only thing I can think of now is corroded wires. The Neg has some corrosion around it; maybe it is has too much impedence?
Thanks.
Turn on your headlights, then try to start the car. If the lights are on bright until you turn the key, then they go dim (or out) and you just hear a click or nothing at all, either your battery is bad or the connections to them are bad.
Check your battery terminals and the connections on the ends of the cables from the battery. Also look at the condition of any wire exposed near the terminals. If that looks degraded or worn, you may need a new cable or two.
Okay thanks, good idea with the headlights. I had a toyota once that had this problem. It was the battery, and it would not jump start. I just haven't thought that was the problem with the vette b/c it appears to charge with the charger.

A bad battery will sometimes "appear" to be good when charged but when put under load will drop right off. Until it is load tested you won't know for sure. Can you hear the starter try to engage at all?
Replaced the Neg(-) cable. Had battery tested, checked out great with heavy load.
Then I started thinking, maybe it's the neutral cut-off/safety switch. But, as I was reconnecting the battery, I got a large spark which got my attention ...so I started tracing the positive cable, which initially looked fine, and I found:
AKA: BUBBA?
I'll replace tomorrow and hope this is it!

I temporarily joined the wire together and still having the same result. Just a 'click' noise at the battery.
I have found a ground wire that is exposed and will fix that also.
I am just concerned that the problem lies elsewhere....
Are there any fuseable links that I should check?
I don't know how you "temporarily joined" those wires, but if you didn't solder them or use a connector that bolted the ends down tight, the connection probably isn't any better than that chintzy butt-splice piece. You are drawing a lot of current through a relatively small wire; the wire shouldn't be spliced at all. Solder it up, before you give up on it.
What it sounds like is happening is the solenoid is working fine, but when the power terminal on the starter connects there's a drain which causes the solenoid to lose power.
On vettes the ground cable from the battery is bolted to the frame. There is a ground cable which runs from the starter's front bracket over to the frame bracket for the motor mount. One these two cables is not carrying sufficient current.
