The one piece seal was introduced in 1986. You will get different opinions on the pump. I went with slightly higher volume -> shows higher back-pressure.
I think the one piece is more reliable but if it goes south you need to pull the trans to replace it, I'm pretty sure. The two piece is serviceable with the oil pan off. It will also require a different flywheel/flexplate.
i am building 350 79 l82 the correct rear main seal is one piece or two piece or which one is better . also high v oil pump vs standard thanks
The correct seal is the two piece. The one piece is not retrofitable to an early block (to my knowledge) however there are methods by which you can retrofit a two-piece rear seal to the 1 piece block.
The 1 piece seal is generally considered superior at sealing however as mentioned earlier requires a different engine block, and flywheel or flexplate (changed bolt pattern radius). It also requires trans removal to replace.
A standard oil pump is all you should need, provided you run standard clearances.

One piece is a different block design and different crank. OP needs a two piece.
