I have a 1976 with an L-48. I need a new carb, and have tried to search and ask around but I receive conflicting answers. I need a replacement carb that will work with my stock intake, but will also be enough to create around 400 hp when I am ready to add heads, intake and a cam.
I asked one guy about and edelbrock and he said it was more difficult to match up to intake mainfold pressure and to go with a Holley because it uses power valves for different manifold pressures. Then another guy tells me the Holley needs constant adjustment and the edelbrock will stay more stable after intially tuned.
What carb can I use as a replacement for now that will fit my curent intake, and will be able to fit an aftermarket (most likely an edelbrock) intake, and handle the additional hp??

The stock intake is for the Qjet Spreadbore carb, the Edelbrock is for a Square bore carb. You can get adapters, but if you are going to spend the money for another carb go ahead and spring for the intake when you get a carb, you can get an Edelbrock combo deal that way. But a Qjet from what I understand will work well up to about 400HP if setup properly. More knowledgable guys will chime in....Good luck!
