I know this has been asked to death, and I have been reading the threads as they came up in case I could find the answer, but I still wonder...
Casting: 3870010 K12
Stamp Pad (in front of RT head): 14186249 K10 11 CMR
I know that this is not the orig engine... (Selling point for me) but the prev. owner has proven to be quite inept about Chevy engines...
I checked Mortech.com and found out that it is a 350cid.
Is it 2 or 4 bolt?
Can CR be calculated using PSI reading during compression test?
Tia, the CMR code was used on two different 350's and yours is a 350 by the 010 casting number. The first CMR code was used in Chevelles and MonteCarlos in 74. It was 145hp 2barrel carb, probably 8.5:1 compression and auto trans. The second year was 78L-82 Vette with manual trans. and 9.0:1 compression. Yes a compression test can give you some indication of compression ratio, but not the exact ratio, as there can be variables with cam and condition of internal parts. I have seen threads on this forum that show general compression readings of various ratios, but I don't have a copy of them. Maybe someone will reprint them. Hope this helps. Hershey :chevy :chevy
Thanks, Heshey. I know the motor was replaced in early '99 ( I bought the car from a coworker), but he doesn't know what he bought... He keeps flip-floping about original replacement and a 350/350 all in the same breath...??? I'm just looking for a clue about what is under the hood...
What would the math. be to back calc. CR from PSI readings..? Thanks In Advance, :seeya
I don't know how to calculate from compression back to comp. ratio. But as a referrence my 8.5:1 compression 75, my compression readings run 140-150. My friends LS6-454 with 11:1 compression reads 195-205. Hershey :chevy
If nobody wants to give the easy answers, can you at least give me the resources to find the answers I seek?.. The 'net has brought forth no answers, what books should I look into? Or go to a Chevy dealer??? (like they'll have a clue!!!???)
I may be talking out of my asz but I noticed the ID # was 14186249. If this numbers final 5 or 6 digits are supposed to match a vehicle's VIN #, then this did not come from a Vette. Highest production was 53000 in 1984 and the last 5 digits here translate into 86249th car. Maybe it was the Monte engine...?
Ummm.... Just a clarification SF80.... The car is '79 and I know the motor isn't original... The original one tossed rods out the block in early (June) '99. The mill in my car is supposed to be a NEW "replacement" ... I'm just trying to find out what it was replaced with...
Hey, wait, arent you getting married this week? What are you doing looking up casting #'s? You should be out drinking!!!!:D
