Default 1982 differential fluid part # question

Hello Forum members.

I just spent the last hour searching for the answer to this question, if anyone can help me I would appreciate it.

I want to do a fluid change on my 1982. I was told by a local vette shop to get GM brand non synthetic fluid and the additive. I bought from gm a fluid that meets the description perfectly but the part number is 89021671.

I found this post below on the forum and as you see it talks of different part numbers. Can anyone please clarify which part number to use on the 1982 ( Dana ?) rear.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Jon

"Your 1981 has a "Dana" aluminum rear end (shared with 1980-1982). There is no drain hole. Fluid is removed by siphoning through the fill hole.

After the fluid is removed:

1st. Add 4 ounces of "Rear Axle Limited-Slip Lubricant Additive", Part Number GM1052358.

2nd then fill to the level of the filler plug hole with special gear lubricant GM1052271 or 1052272. The Forum Archives will have lots of threads on lubricants, everybody has an opinion.

The GM gear lube works for me, but in any case, be sure to use 4 ounces of "Rear Axle Limited-Slip Lubricant Additive", Part Number GM1052358."

Found this on one of the GM sites:

"Part number 1052271 was superseded by part number 89021671."

Thank you for that info.. I googled many different ways and didn't see that or any specific information on part numbers.

Just use an 80w-90 rear gear oil with the 4 ounce posi additive.
I have the service manual and it provides the GM parts but also says you can use an equivalent after market.

I have already bought the GM oil so I will stick with that but wanted to confirm the part # . It looks like I might have the right stuff but If you have a chance just to check the # in your manual that would be great..

Thanks..

Manual states:
GM Part No. 1052271 or 1052272 . Before filling, add 4 ounces of additive GM part No.
1052358.
As mentioned I have talked to the rear end /transmission shops and you can you use an aftermarket equivalent also.
