Assembly Manuals
Please tell me the difference between the Assembly Instruction Manual, (AIM) and the Product Description Manual (PDM).
I own the PDM and it shows many diagrams but in my search for the AIM manual it sounds like it may be the same book.
The cover of the PDM says 'Corvette 1976 Assembly Manual' with a drawings of a Corvette, views of a rear end, front end brake and a console.
Is there any difference between the two manuals?

Assembly Instruction Manual is somewhat a misnomer as you cannot start at the beginning of the book, follow instructions, and have a Corvette when you get to the end of the book. It really is a product description. Also note that because of the way "A.I.M." pages were collected, they many/may not reflect running changes - in other words the A.I.M. is very useful, but don't be surprised if your Corvette differs.

Well, I will both agree and disagree with what was said above. The AIM is in logic order if you consider what it was intended to be: a reference book for the employees at various 'build stations' on the final assembly line at the factory. Each page shows the work to be done at one station. The order of the book is then grouped into sections that relate to major segments/components on the car. As some vehicle segments get worked on at different stations (sometimes quite distant from each other), there will be some specific components/parts that are shown in multiple pages of, and throughout, the AIM.
But, it is not organized for the end users of the Corvette factory (us) and never was intended to be 'sold' as a customer service reference. But it is a good instrument to help us understand how the assembly went together.
The CD versions now available for the AIM are nice because you can search for a "keyword" or "number" and ALL of those affected pages in the AIM will be displayed for your review.
