Default 77 Fuel Line Removal

Just acquired a 1977 in the past month and wanted to change the fuel filter (Q-jet carb) which according to records had about 12 years or 9K miles on it. With a tubing wrench, I found that the line at the carb was rounded a bit, and perhaps overtightened in the past. The previous garage also put teflon tape, a no-no I know. I bought a new fuel line, and plan to remove the old line from the fuel pump and then cut the line and get a box wrench on it and hopefully it will break loose, then change the filter.. There is an air cond. compressor blocking a good view of the fuel pump. Would you jack it up and loosen up the line at the pump from underneath, or unbolt the compressor and go at it from the top?

If replacing the line anyway cut it off at the nut and use a six point socket on the nut. Guaranteed success.

Go from underneath and be sure to use your flarenut wrench on line fitting and a good backup wrench on the pump fitting. A mini tubing cutter will be safest way to cut the line. mds...

Don't forget to clamp off the rubber connecting fuel feed line [from the fuel tank]. Otherwise, it will get mighty nasty in there.
