I think I am going composite while changing out the gears. I'm looking at the hypercoil from ZIP or the VBP? Probably going with 330lb...I have stock springs on front with 1 coil cut off.
Any opinions on one vice the other? I have heard stories of VBP springs breaking? Also i am currently running KYB gas adjust with my original 9 leaf. Should I upgrade the shocks when i add the composite spring or will the KYB's work ok? I have seen previous opinions recommending koni or bilstein shocks with composite springs.
39 views and nobody has an opinion? I like the write up's on the hypercoil unit's...I suspect there are a lot of VBP fans probably keeping quiet, ,,any unbiased opinions out there?...would really appreciate some input on this one...and the shock question as well.
Well here is some info for ya. Just finished complete front and rear suspension rebuild. I also had the thick rear spring fe7 gymkana suspension package with kyb 1 year old shocks. Installed vbp glass spring 360lb rear and 460lb touring coils up front. Had the car on the road this weekend and very happy with the ride. The car does not seem to bounce in the rear. VBP suggested a speical kyb shock valved for their fiber spring but I stayed with the gas adjust. So far so good but only about 150 miles on this setup
I went with VBP Performance Plus System with Bilstein Shocks. It's not on the road yet, so I can't tell you how it is. I'm shooting to have it on the road for Memorial Day
I have been autocrossing on a VBP 420+lb spring with kyb gas a just shocks for around 15 years now on my 73. It handles very well. The same setup (except i think the spring is softer) was on my 76 when I bought it. I drive that one on the street and don't feel the rear bounce like some say except when i hit a very large bump in a turn. We did break one spring , but i think that is because my dad went off the end of a rumble strip at Putnam Park. It hit hard enough to break the fiberglass body between the door and wheel.
I think the popular white KYB Gas-A-Just are the shocks not to use with a composite spring. They allow bounce with the composite. I have read this from several members over the years. Memory like an elephant.
Its either the gray KYB GR-2 with special valving, or the Bilstein Sports the way I understand it. I have also read the Edelbrock IAS and Koni adjustables seem OK with composite as well.
Van Steel should advise you when they sell you the spring.

Thanks Brent...The shocks I have are the white GAS adjust KYB's...So guess I'll order a couple of bilstein sports and try them both with the new spring..

KYB's for composite springs are junk... they can not control the faster reacting composite spring... stay away from them... go Bilstine Sports.

Interested in hearing the difference in comfort-performance. Might go this route too. I have the longer bolts and Billy Sports. Just need the spring.
