Looking for pics of a yellow painted engine on a black frame. Trying to decide what color to paint my block. Here is what the "theme" of the car is so far...
I will be painting the body yellow as well. Here is a pic of it photoshopped yellow.
Been doing it for years. Just make sure you use a clear coat engine paint over the yellow engine paint. Mine is the same as above. Yellow car with yellow block, intake and bellhousing. Chrome and black everything else.
Of the race blocks I've seen that are painted .... vast majority are painted a lite-medium gray.
Most of the same cars had the engine bay chassis painted same shade of gray.
I prepped a tired & rusty '48 Triumph bike for a swap meet ... got a couple rattle cans of (never forgot) "tisket-tasket yellow" to cover/spruce the rough sheet metal tanks & fenders. Turnip drew lotsa interest until a strip-show broke out a few tables down ... with free samples.
Not long after, I assembled a hot rod Toyota 3KC pushrod motor ... and painted block with left over "TTY" ... it looked ok to me. I sure wasn't trying to match corolla body as it was truly a hen-turd brownish yellow. I'd had Crane regrind its solid FT cam for me ... fun little car.
yellow block looks ok ... but I doubt I'd ever be trying to match block paint to any non-OE scheme anyway.
As long as the block is painted the same color as the body, it will look fine. Even if your brake calipers are a bit different shade of yellow than the body color, the engine still needs to be the color of the body; otherwise, the difference in yellows will stick out like a 'sore thumb'. That paint has to be capable of withstanding engine temperatures without degrading. I agree that it would be best to put a [tough] clear coat over the engine paint, but it, too, needs to withstand engine temps.
If you take the car to a quarter car wash every month or so to spray off the block, as it accumulates dirt, it should be relatively easy to keep clean. Of course, the [light colored] yellow paint will make dirt easier to spot.
I have a 77 vette that is the original corvette yellow. I had the block painted to match. Let me get home today and snap some new pictures for you. Might give you an idea or two.
