If you want to know about small base circles, they were strictly ground to clear antique cranks and rods. With advent of aftermarket rods and such, the manufacturers generally build their stuff to work with standard base circle cams so guys who dont understand about base circles dont ever have to delve into the subject.

Small base circles are about clearance, not performance.

I know its not about performance, i just did not know how to set one up in an engine, but now i know, and i have both cam cards on this cam in a small base circle and a retrofit and the numbers were different and i wanted to know why,in my mind they should be the same.and as you see in comp cams tech answered my question why one was different from the other.
