Default 69 side exhaust question

I am looking at a coupe with factory equipped side exhaust. The miiddle cross member has holes for under the car exhaust to pass thru. did factory sidepipe exhaust come that way?

Yes. The holes were in all cars.

How do you know for sure the car left the factory with side exhaust? Not that many did. Many more had them added later.

You're right, only about 10%. Guy clains it is on tank sticker, I just asked to see it. Thx for the input!

Lots of things actually. First look at the rear panel. The vertical seam is straight. Look for insulation between the frame and the rockers.

By vertical seams, do you mean where the oval exhaust tailpipes cutouts would have exited the car?pipi

Yes. Also look at the fender side of that seam on the inside. There should be NO body/glass work in that area. The General used a different lower rear quarter for cars ordered with the N-14 side pipe option.
This pic shows the driver side fender. Notice the original press molded corner, no body work. You can see body work on the filler panel.

If you drop the tank, you should see something like this.

Knowledge is power, Grasshopper. Start buying books for your Corvette reference library. My advice for your first purchase is a copy of Rick Bizzoco's 1969 Stingray Guide Book. Good stuff. Join the NCRS. Get a copy of the NCRS Jdging Guide for '69.

Ahhh, but the old saying goes "you don't know what you don't know."

Most of us have gone thru the school of hard knocks at least once.

Hi,
Another thing to check for is a spacer between the rear transmission mount and the frame.
N-14 cars didn't get the bracket that mounts there that the exhaust pipe clamps fasten the pipes to. In order to keep the engine/trans, driveshaft angle correct, that spacer was installed.
Often cars that have had the pipes added don't have the spacer.
I love straight seams!
Regards,
Alan
