After the performance rebuild, the stock clutch didnt want to hold anymore. So i am looking for a good clutch to replace it. The car will see the track but do most of its time on the street. any suggestions? thanks guys
You'll get a lot of different opinions on this... I personally like my Centerforce Dual Friction... Doesn't take a lot of peddle pressure and seems to "lock up" pretty good when it's engaged.
I have the Center Force that is 30% more holding power than stock. It is holding up fine so far. I make about 420Hp and have raced it numerous times and it is still holding up.
three votes for centerforce.
definately stay away from ram! i bought one several years ago for my car after i first got it. it was supposed to be their 'intermediate' model. what a peice of crap! :mad i could not take off at less than 2k engine revs, any less and it would shake the bolts out of the car :cuss it may be o.k. for racing where that is how you launch but it sucks for a street car.
i finally put a centerforce in it after about a year of that crap and i can engage the clutch at just off idle without stalling or rattling the car.
4 for DF centerforce- I only have about 1000 miles on it but so far its pretty good. A little shakey of the start but thats what its good for. Grabbin quick :D
Had a Borg Warner, only lasted 700 miles with a good bit of track time. Wouldn't even spin the tires at 600 miles. :U
The Centerforce Dual Friction is great for cars that have mild to moderate amounts of power. If you plan on using this clutch for a powerful Big Block, forget it. You will need a Long style clutch and Ram Clutches make great units that are either adjustable or non-adjustable.
I have the Centerforce Dual friction and I like it but I liked my Hayes clutch just as much. I had the Hays clutch for about 7 years and never had any problems with it and only replaced it because I was rebuilding the engine. The Centerforce can have problems with the clutch fork geometery. I would go with the Hayes.
