Check the end of the distributor shaft. An ex-girlfriend had an Oldsmobile that the the connector in the end of the HEI distributor shaft wore out and would not turn the oil pump. With the distributor out turn the oil pump with an electric drill (make sure to set the drill rotation to match the way the distributor turns) and see if you get oil pressure. A replacement distributor from a salvage yard got the Olds back on the road.

The distributor forms part of the oiling system - I don't thnk you'll get oil pressure without the distributor in place, or a pre-oiler which simulates the distributor body. However, the idea is sound, but you'll have to get a pre-oiler, or make one out of an old distributor.
