Transmission/Differential question
Hello all. So, I have the clunking sound when turning left if i'm getting on it. I've swapped the diff oil, used the additive, and done the figure 8's but no help. Also had the snubber bushing replaced but that didn't help either. My mechanic thinks it could be wheel bearings but wasn't sure and said to just keep an eye/ear on it.
In December I took my car out for a spin and as i was pulling into garage, I lost forward. I put it in reverse and nothing. Put it it park and then 1,2, (or some combination) and ended getting forward again. I've since then started it up and made sure I could get forward and reverse and I could.
I don't want to take it out because I don't want to get stranded.
I just re-did the whole interior on this thing
It's an 81 with automatic
My questions.
Could the clunking noise and slipping out of gear be related?
Could it have been a one time occurrence or is it just a matter of time before I'm stranded in car?
Could the cold have had something to do with it?
Any suggestions or ideas out there?
