Default Try search.

Sorry but i answer this on a weekly basis here - and could more often if desired. Don't want to be a craby but the forums search function works well enough.

Don't use the faux plastic rocker tool, they're not at all accurate.

Get your actual rocker, extend it so that the tip of the rocker tip is near the end of the valve stem on the intake side. Tighten to zero lash. Turn the motor over, at mid lift the tip should be centered on the stem. At max lift it should be near the other end of the stem.

If it goes further back than it does forward or vice versa, adjust it till it's right.

These have been the best buy I've ever made:

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/CCA-7705/

These are marked so you can take the reading right off the tool rather than pulling out your 9" micrometer...which of course everyone has

These are available individually, but I bought the set.

Still no really good explination on how to measure length, you should go to an Art supply store, get some Cobalt Blue or Titanium White oil paint, lightly paint the valve stem tip with it and run the motor through a rotation with the valve train assembled. You will be looking for a witness mark across the valve tip: it needs to be centered on the tip or you will have future problems (centered meaning the paint wiped off from the intake manifold side to exhaust port side is an equal distance across the valve tip.) Buying an adjustable pushrod can help you determine the proper length or make friends with a local auto machininst and see if they can help you out (often times, their parts prices will beat Summit or Jegs and they will be able to get you the right parts the first time.)

Here is a better link to the job, they used a sharpie, I don't.

Here's my motor:

Here's what it should look like at mid lift, maybe forward just a tad. So that it's right in the center.

Max lift.

No lift it should be closer to the intake. As far off center as it is at max lift, but in the other direction. Pretty simple. Just eye ball it. Don't freak out.
