Default Got to love overdrive

Today is my birthday so I took some time this afternoon for a cruise. Put about 100 miles on the new motor and T56 today. Here are two highway shots. Took it up to about 80 and the tach still does not move very much. This is a T56 from an 06 GTO running a 3.70 rear gear with 275 40 18s. Nice day for an easy cruise around. I did not go anywhere but those are the best drives. Sorry no video yet, just camera phone pics.

Yeah that is sweet....those T56s allow for a bunch of
rear gear....

So what's up with the new motor? I didn't know you replaced the other 400+rwhp one?

You have some heat in there now or what?

Still the same short block but I put on new AFR 210 heads and a solid roller cam. Should add some more HP. It sure feels like it added it. I come on the rev limter way to fast now. It is all in my signature

Well happy birthday Gordon! That must mean that you are 8 days older than me. I've been driving all over also. Only I do not have as pretty of gauges!

I'm off on another race weekend in about an hour. What is your top gear ratio?

Besides the motor, the OD trans is the best thing I have done to mine. Totally transformed the car.

5th is a useable around town .84 and sixth is a highway gear of .57 so overall I am at 2.109 final drive ratio.

So lets do the math. A redline of 7000 rpm with the OD in 6th gear I can do 260 mph.

I just got back from a trip to Minnesota - first long run on the TKO 500.

Easier on the car and I managed 17.23 MPG running about 78 - what a difference...

I took the same pic..

Yeah, my birthday is in less than 2 weeks and I usually take mine out for a long drive to nowhere. If I post a pic of mine at that speed Gordon, my tach will read double what yours reads! Happy Birthday and congrats on the new combo. I know I'd be thrilled to death with your old combo, much less the new one.

HAPPY B-day! I agree TKO 600 was good upgrade to the 70 LT-1 (warning NCRS followers should stop reading IMMEDIATLEY!) With big factory Holley mileage is around 20MPG on highway cruise.

Happy Birthday to you Gordon. I love my TKO 600. Make driving 70 or 80 manageable.

Happy Belated Gordon.

Your cruise numbers are enticing; your setup is one of a few that I've looked to for info. I'm hoping to have results something like that myself, by assembling a package that will work together similar to yours.

GKull: Hope you enjoy a fun BD too, in a few days.

Cheers to both of you.

Ditto on the happy belated Gordon - you rat *** bastard with your "overdrive".... j/k

Seriously, am dying to replace the stock 4 speed. Ran an errand today in the vette, looking at the tach/speedo doing 60 mph and the tach reading 3050 rpm gave me flash backs to this thread.

Kudos on the GTO T56 install!

Thanks for all the Bday wishes. Today was spent putting Jays, 73jst4fun motor back in his car. I already had installed a TKO in his car so he wanted some more power. We installed a roller cammed 355 with AFR 195 heads on it. Just about ready to fire it up.

The T56 was more than I expected. It took a tremendous amount of work fitting it in and getting the clearances right. Putting in the LS1 style throwout bearing was fun along with all the hardware. It is an extremly tight fit using a Gen 1 SB and a T56 like this but it can be done. I am waiting now for the custom shifter plate to arrive and I have a C6 shifter **** and boot to go along with it. Should look pretty good on the interior when done. Yes I will post pics when it is all assembled.

The trans came from a rolled 06 GTO with 18K on the clock. My brother in law took the whole drivetrain and interior out of the car and had it. he wanted to sell me the LS2 and T56 combo but I have to much invested in my motor so I took just the trans. I paid 1K for the trans but it cost me a good amount more to install it the right way.
