Are you talking about the chrome trim?
If so then I think you have to remove (and possibly ruin the weather striping)
unless it is just glued on in that case you may wreck it when you try to get it off.
Yeah the t-top trim is screwed on but the screws are hidden underneath the weatherstrip. If you were planning on replacing the weatherstripping I'd just tear the old stuff off cause either way the weatherstripping is gonna get trashed when you try to remove it.
If you're talking about the 1/4" wide trim that goes across the front, I wouldn't try to remove it! If you're talking about the stuff on the side that's about 1 1/4" wide, that's easier to remove. I wouldn't take either off now if you've already painted. Just be very careful and clean it up on the car. If the paint is thick you could gently scrap it with a razor blade first, very gently. Then polish it.
Slix I wouldnt remove it neither. The garage did when they painted my vette and it never look the same as original. A little crooked. It might of been inexperience. The other side they masked and its much better.

Re: Removing t-top trim? (chevyman)
Try a little Carb Cleaner sprayed on a rag or a Q-tip to remove overspray on trim and on rubber moldings also.
Oh yeah, anoither good trick is Westly's Bleach White Tire Cleaner is the best carpet cleaner you've ever tried. Take a bucket of water and a sponge and dampen the carpet and then lightly spray it with the tire cleaner. Take a towel and wipe it down clean, And that's it! IT will remove Coke stains, Grease, and dirt. No it doesn't take out the color either. JIM
You can remove it carefully.
There are some screws - remove them.
Otherwise the trim is just pushed on, perhaps you can see the little hooks from the inside. They bite in the inner side of the panel.
I removed the trim by carefully bending the little teeth back and then carefully lifted the trim.
If you bend it, you can easily reshape it, its stainless steel.
I have two sets of old tops around and if you are in need I can help you.
