Default Replacing Upper Shift Boot

in the process of cleaning up my center shift area, I ordered a new OEM rubber shift boot ('69 4 sp 427, no air cond)

What are the steps to install? will it slide over the reverse T-Handles?

I believe you will need to remove the reverse T-handle (unscrew the shift ****) and then remove the 4 screws holding the boot to the consol. I think it took a little work to get the new boot back in but can be done without removing the center consol

Rubber shift boot? Do you mean the tunnel rubber boot (which will require complete removal of your center console and your lower console unless you have small hands
OR
do you mean the upper leather shifter handle boot which will require removal of just the center console? (to install this you must invert the center console to screw in the boot and push it back through - don't think you can do it correctly from above).
Both require removal of the shifter ball and T-handle which will take 60 seconds so they are the least of your worries.

The upper boot is rubber, not leather. The shifter plate has to come out because the boot is secured from underneath.

I replaced mine not long ago. I had to use a strap wrench to loosen the ball on the shifter - then it came off as described above. Then, once you pull the shift plate out, there are 4 screws you will have access to that secure it.

The '69 upper boot is rubber, I think leather started in '70.

Thanks guys, I was hopeful I wouldn't have to take the plate out again since I just put it all back in after cleaning and repainting...dang.

Correct on both counts. No leather and the boot mounts to the shifter trim plate.
