Default SBC Trick Flow Heads

I have the chance to purchase a set of Trick Flow Twisted Wedge Heads at a good deal($450), but was wondering if I should get them. They are angle plug heads and I'm not sure if I should get them or not since they won't work with the side mounted headers. What do you guys think?

I don't know about all the stories about Hookers not working with TF angle plug heads...here's proof they do..in living color

The guy said he only had them on for about 15,000 miles and they are the gen I version. Looks like I'm going to have to go for a ride and pick them up. Did you have to do anything to make them work with the hookers, any dings or something? That's a good looking engine.

The Ford guys love these heads, I am surprised I don't see more Chevy's or more specifically C3's running these heads.

Nothing, they fit with plenty of room all around. The only issue is number 2 plug is difficult to remove. I shortened a plug socket to get it done.

I agree. The rub was of complicated valve train geometry, unequal pushrod lengths fast wearing guides etc. I've had no such issues

They flow great. The only issue with them is the offset intakes should use an offset rocker arm to eliminate side loading on the valve guide and the valve pockets are not aligned on some high compression pistons with high lift cams you could get interference. I think comp makes a rocker specifically for them. This is the reason they got a bad rap. A lot of these were installed with conventional rockers and subsequently had guide problems.

Well it turns out that the guy sold the heads, even after I called early in the morning and told him I would take them. Oh well, something else will come up later on. Thank everyone for the help.

I've searched, but all that comes up is Ford heads. I think I'm just going to finish putting the Vette together and wait later on down the road. It would've been nice having some aluminum heads on the Vette, especially for $450.

Those heads can be a pain in the **** to get right. The few I was ever involved with required cutting the pushrod guide plates and welding them back together to get proper rocker centering on the valve stem tips. The design had a lot of potential but the details were not fully thought out when they released them. Better to look for some regulr 23 degree heads for your Vette.

Default Desperate for help

I bought a set of generation I Trick Flow Heads for my 75 L-82. I lucked out and only paid $300. I spent some time this evening checking valve to piston clearance and I was OK on both intake and exhaust (.250 and .300) roughly at the closest points. I called Trick Flow with the serial numbers and got them to e-mail me the specs and installation sheet. Proper length for the Pushrod was noted to be about .100” over OEM. That was pretty close for the exhaust valve. But……….I literally struggled for hours with a gear head buddy trying to determine the length of the Intake Pushrod. Just couldn't get it right. They make no mention of this issue in the specs and instructions. Ended up either too long or too short no matter what we did. Looks like there is some tribal knowledge out there about the need for an offset rocker for the intake valve and some negative feedback about varying pushrod lengths. I bought some nice Lunati 1.5:1 rollers but that isn’t working for the intake. Anyone know any more to help solve the mystery? More info on the offset rocker requirement that is not noted in the instructions?. I am literally struggling with this.

I have a set of these available if you are still intrested. They are complete, except the dampers and have been freshend up. Found three of teh dampers broken during valve job. They are missing the dampers which add about 6# seat preasure closed. Everything else looked good,
I have have all teh studs, guides and roller tip rockers. $500 and they're yours.
