This a link from one of our greatest forum people. I just followed and worked great. You need to know if you have hydraulic or solid lifters. At the bottom of the link is Lars email address.

Sorry about that. I'll try again. You should have hydraulic lifters no matter which engine for that year.

Very well written. Is there one for solid lifters? I just picked up a '72 LT-1 and might as well do this while replacing the valve cover gaskets.

The Chilton manual has directions for hydraulic and solid lifters. I am sure online somewhere will have adjustments for solid lifters.

Yes, I have the definitive solid lifter adjustment article written by John Hinckley and Duke Williams. E-mail me for a copy:

No, don't use the Chilton's manual for valve adjustment.

I only use a Chiltons manual to hold up the other (worthwhile) Corvette reference books in my book case.

How about oil choice for the new motor. I have been reading more and more about the newer oils do not have all the additives that help protect the hydraulic lifter cams. I have read that ZR-1 oil still possessed the needed components that are easier on the cam lobes and lifters. Any comments? Or is this bull.

I agree with Lars on Chilton for hydraulic lifters. Bad advice there

i bought a speed pro cam and they reccomend a zinc additive for the break-in period. if that is what your referring to. on regular motor oil i use royal purple or amsoil. hope this helps...

Lars, since we're on the topic may I ask for your opinion of the "companion cylinder" method for valve adjustment?

to you for all you do for the board!

I have adjusted my valves based on Lars's paper to, straight forward and easy to do as per the firing order.
