Default Steering column/turn signal question

I am replacing my turn signal cams and attached wiring harness on my 79 C3. I think I may have gone a little too deep into the column to try to get the attached wiring harness to come out on the old piece. The headlight dimmer switch has a push rod that activates the switch. This push rod no longer seems to line up with the switch down deeper in the column. Any suggestions???

I did have a small piece of spring steel about 1 1/4" long and about 3/16" wide fall out of somewhere?? This piece looks like it clips onto another part. I would attach a picture, but apparently I can't. Any suggestions on this? Anywhere I can get a full exploded view of this part of the steering column?

Thanks....

This is a generic blowup of a 1979 GM tilt column. The "guts" of the column head are identical to your T&T except for the telescoping parts in the upper steering shaft #55. The dimmer pivot rod, dimmer switch, tilt mechanism, lock cylinder and rack, etc are identical to yours.

The spring steel part that you are describing is most likely the rack preload spring #37. I might suggest that you download this paper from the www.corvettefaq.com website. It may help in reassembling the column.

Sorry that the blowup is in Microsoft word.doc format and D&R Paper #3 is in pdf format. I am having problems converting to pdf right now.
